What are the costs associated with counseling and testing?

Your consultation with Dr Brooks at Hudson Valley Cancer Genetics/Hannah L Brooks, MD, PLLC, is a separate cost from the genetic testing itself.  One fee will cover two full visits with the doctor: your pre test  and post test counseling sessions.

Payment for the office visit/consultation is due at the time of the initial visit. We strive to be reasonable. If you have any questions about the visit cost, do not hesitate to call our office and ask! For the genetic testing itself, every effort will be made to find in network lab or diagnostic testing or specialty providers that take your insurance plan. In addition, if you wish, for personal reasons, to pay for genetic testing out of pocket, we work with excellent commercial labs that offer substantially reduced fees.

If you require a HCFA form or receipt/statement so that you can apply your expenses to your insurance deductible, HSA account or FLEX account, let us know. We are happy to provide at the time of your visit

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept major Credit or Debit cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express. We accept cash payment as well as personal checks (Note: there will be bank fee and administrative fee for any check returned/not cleared).

How does Hudson Valley Cancer Genetics obtain my prior medical history and family history?

If you are seeing us for consultation, please let us know if you are new to the practice, or have seen Dr Brooks in the past. We do our best to gather the necessary medical information. We will let you know what to bring with you or have sent, and we communicate with your regular doctors as you wish. We may be emailing you a link to our SECURE portal, or an assistant will work with you over the phone. This is a convenient way of saving some time before your visit.

If your risk assessment (the ‘pre-test’ visit) indicates a need for genetic testing, the sample can be submitted at the office or a kit will be mailed within 24h-48h. We understand the need for timely action, especially in people with a new diagnosis of cancer, for whom medical review and test results are important in planning treatments. Depending on the kind of testing needed, results can be returned in 1-4 weeks. We call you as soon as the results are back, and schedule a timely post test follow-up.

We thank you for your cooperation and understanding and hope to provide you with an excellent experience!
